World Swimming Championships Enormous Success: FINA

The 9th World Swimming Championships that took place in Fukuoka from July 16 to 29 were an enormous success, not only in the competition, but also in terms of media coverage and impact worldwide.

According to a press release from world swimming ruling body FINA issued in Lausanne Friday, there achieved eight world records, 48 world championships records, 54 continental records, more than 600 million TV viewers worldwide, about 155,000 spectators in the competition venues.

A record participation of 1,498 athletes from 134 national federations made these championships the biggest ever organized by FINA.

During the competition, FINA carried out 287 doping tests and all of them were negative.

In cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency, 30 out-of- competition tests were done prior to the start of the championships. No banned substances were found in any of these tests.

The press release said that 670 written journalists and photographers from 37 countries and regions and 700 TV reporters from 20 countries and regions cover the championships.
