Argentine Prime Minister Meets Chinese Education Minister

Argentine Prime Minister Christina Colombo discussed education cooperation with visiting Chinese Education Minister Chen Zhili on Thursday.

Chen, who is on a three-day visit to this South American country, said exchange of high-level visits between China and Argentina have picked up its momentum and bilateral relations have witnessed marked development following Argentine President Fernando De la Rua's visit to China last September and Chinese President Jiang Zemin's visit to Argentina this April.

The Chinese government appreciates the Argentine government's stand of sticking to its One-China policy and hopes to strengthen cooperation in all areas, especially in education, she said.

Colombo highly evaluated the development of the friendly relations between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and educational fields. The Argentine government attached great importance to full cooperation with China in education, he said.

Chen also met Argentine Education Minister Andres Delich Thursday. She arrived in Buenos Aires Wednesday after attending the inauguration ceremony of Peru's new President Alejandro Toledo as a Chinese government envoy, and paying a visit to Colombia.

She is scheduled to leave for home on Friday after winding up her visit to Argentina.
