Maiden Voyage from China' Mainland to Matsu

China's first direct passenger ship "Shuguang" from Fujian's Mawei to Taiwan's Matsu began to set sail on August 2, indicating a substantial step forward for promoting the exchanges between Mawei and Matsu across the Straits.

At the invitation of Matsu Economic & Trade Culture Exchange Federation, 11 representatives from Fuzhou's Mawei Economic and Cultural Exchange Center will make a three-day study tour to Matsu. It is a move to carry out the "Mawei-Matsu Agreement" and to further promote exchanges between the two sides in personnel communication, trade and cargo shipping activities. The delegation will pay a visit to Matsu's non-governmental organizations and have a familiarization of Matsu's port and tourism facilities and learn further about the needs of the Matsu people for exchanges between the two sides and discuss various exchange ways. The delegation also brought bodiless lacquerware, Fuzhou's specialty, to Matsu people.

According to reports, since Matsu's passenger ship opened direct sailing to Mawei for 18 times in half a year, more than 1,330 Taiwan compatriots and Matsu people have come to Fuzhou for visit. However, due to Taiwan's restriction, the direct sailing from Mawei to Matsu failed to start operation until August 2.
