Hi-tech Enhances PLA's Combat Capability

On the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), Xinhua reported Tuesday that PLA has introduced a large number of latest technologies in its training to have substantially improved its overall combat capability.

A series of new facilities, technologies and strategies with latest high-tech achievements like electronic system, intelligent disturbance and deceiving, and precision strike have been adopted by the PLA in an effort to shift traditional combat methods to modern methods.

According to the report, military drill with high-tech has a great impact on traditional training concept and the PLA has so far tried various new training methods like joint forces combating, online confrontation, cannon speeding response, and mobile missile launching.

No less coverage has also been given to PLA's great success in achieving a switch from past fight against tanks, air strikes, parachuting and strikes of enemy's atomic, chemical and bio-tech weapons, to the new mode of fighting stealth fighters, cruise missile, armed helicopters, precision strike, electronic interference and surveillance.

Dongshan Drill to Enter New Stage

On the other hand, after two months' training, the large-scale drill in Dongshan involves at least 100,000 PLA soldiers as a mixed striking force of different arms and services.

A report carried on Hong Kong-based Wen Wai Po said the military drill, the largest one since the founding of the PLA, has lasted for three months starting from April and has engaged the most advanced facilities.

Since 1996, China has held military exercises off Dongshan Island. Habitants here have gradually got used to it and they have lent all possible support to the exercises as in the way of sending fresh eggs, fish, meat, vegetable and water to the army.

In the meantime, more than 500 PLA soldiers together with local people participated in the fight to protect the 2000-plus-meter-long coast dyke when typhoon Utor hit Dongshan and Tongling July 5.
