At Least Seven Injured in West London Bomb ExplosionA suspected car bomb exploded near Ealing Broadway tube station in west London just before midnight on Thursday evening, causing at least seven people injured, a hospital spokesman said.Police said there were "several" injuries but were unable to confirm numbers. Ambulances were driving away with casualties on board, but the extend of their injuries were not known. A spokesman for the Ealing Hospital said seven people had been admitted, including one seriously injured. Eyewitnesses said there was a "huge blast" and the scene around is one of "complete devastation" with shop fronts blown out and " glass everywhere." There was also flooding, after a water pipe was believed to have burst. Scotland Yard said the cause of the blast was not yet known. Officers said they had received a warning, but could not confirm whether it was a recognized codeword. Police have cordoned off the area and were searching for second devices. Hundreds of people were reported to be milling about looking for their friends from whom they were separated during the evacuation. Last year, police destroyed a bomb left near railway tracks no far from Ealing Broadway tube station. Dissident republican terrorist group, the Real IRA, was suspected to be behind that attack. |
