Philips Lighting Aids Kids in NeedPhilips Lighting (China) Co., a branch of the multinational Philips Electronics, has recently offered one million yuan (about 120,000 US dollars) worth of assistance to Shanghai Children's Welfare Institute and the primary schools in the poor rural areas of China.Company officials said 800,000 yuan will be used to build two primary schools in Hubei and Gansu provinces for poor kids, 157 libraries for primary school students in nine provinces and autonomous regions, and fund 343 dropouts for primary school education. The company also provided 200,000 yuan worth of lighting products to Shanghai Children's Welfare Institute. In 1998, the company donated one million yuan to Hubei, Liaoning and several other provinces for building five primary schools. Philips Lighting, one of the seven divisions of Philips, entered the Chinese market in the 1980s. It has since established five joint ventures and two solely funded enterprises in China. |
