National Library Displays Manuscripts of MasterpiecesThe National Library of China on August 2 opened an exhibition on manuscripts of modern and contemporary prominent writers and scholars.According to Ren Jiyu, director of the library, it is the first time for his library to show the nearly 200 pieces of exhibits to the public. The library started collecting famous holographs soon after the founding of New China and built a special depository with the more than 1,000 donated articles. The three-month exhibition displays masterpieces belonging to Lu Xun, Liang Qichao, Cao Yu, Guo Moruo and other scholars since the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Ren expressed hope that the exhibition will arouse public interest in the national cultural heritage and encourage more donations to the library's collection. Vice-Minister of Culture Zhou Heping, and a group of renowned scholars were present at Thursday's opening ceremony. |
