Papua New Guinea Closes Embassies in Cost-Cutting Move

Ambassy of Papua New Guinea in Seoul closed as of August 1 due to the country's poor economic situation.

Papua New Guinea started suffering from economic difficulties from foreign loan burdens and separatist movements. On top of that, the El Nino phenomenon caused immense natural disasters.

Papua New Guinea's embassies in Washington D.C., Paris, Bonn, Singapore will also close and there are only nine remaining, including those in New York City, Tokyo and London.
