China to Launch Anti-Dumping Investigation on Two ROK Chemicals

China will start an anti-dumping investigation over polyester chips and polyester staple fiber imported from the Republic of Korea (ROK), according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).

The investigation will start August 3, in accordance with MOFTEC's ninth and tenth announcements of 2001, which will be released Friday.

The investigation will involve polyester chips and polyester staple fiber imported from the ROK, which are listed under "3907. 6011, 3907.6019 -- Polyester Chips" and "5503.2000, 5506.2000 -- Polyester Staple Fiber" in the tariff of China's General Administration of Customs (GAC).

Starting Friday, the MOFTEC, along with the GAC, will launch an investigation into the dumping of the two products imported from the ROK in accordance with China's regulations on anti-dumping and anti-subsidy.

The State Economic and Trade Commission, together with other relevant departments under the State Council, will investigate into the damage done to China's industries by the dumping.

The investigation is expected to end within one year before August 3, 2002, but may be extended to 18 months under special circumstances.
