Preparations Underway for Investment & Trade Fair in Xiamen

The Fifth China Investment and Trade Fair (CFIIT) to be held in September in Xiamen Special Economic Zone, east China's coastal province of Fujian, will, for the first time, set up an exhibition arena for developing countries to show their investment plans and projects.

The move was made in response to the government's strategy of developing bi-directional investment, that is to encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest overseas while absorbing capital from foreign countries.

The annual fair, scheduled for September 8-12 every year, is the only national activity aimed to lure direct overseas funds and is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Fujian Provincial People's Government and the Xiamen People's Government.

Exhibition contents have so far been decided and preparations are intensely underway.

It is learned that the CFIIT will stress the use of foreign investment in major projects and the central and western regions. Meanwhile, its efforts to promote trade across the Taiwan Straits will continue.

Also, it plans to invite distinguished statesmen and economists to attend symposiums on topics like challenges and opportunities faced by China upon its WTO entry.
