Indonesian New Cabinet Delayed Till Next Week

The announcement of the new cabinet under Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri has been delayed till next week.

The much-awaited announcement of the cabinet lineup had initially been anticipated for Friday.

However, after a meeting of political party leaders at Megawati 's residence Thursday morning, it was revealed that the president had only begun to officially solicit names from political parties on potential ministerial candidates.

The Golkar Party General Chairman, Akbar Tandjung, said after the meeting that the names of the candidates can immediately be submitted to the president.

"It (the cabinet) should be announced by next week. The final selection is the prerogative of the president," Akbar was quoted by the Jakarta Post.com online news service as saying.
