37 Buried As Mountain Side Collapses near Jiangxi Quarry
The toll from a landslide in a southeastern Chinese quarry in
Jiangxi
province rose to 15 confirmed dead and 13 missing£¬ state press reported Wednesday.
The quarry was engulfed with rocks and debris after the side of a mountain near Taqian village collasped£¬burying at least 37 people on Monday.
Nine local villagers survived the slide.
The provincial government has set up an investigation team to look into the causes of the disaster.
State television showed footage of rescuers using heavy machinery digging through dirt and rocks in an effort to find more survivors.
