Township Firms See Opportunities in Go-west Drive

The development of western China has greatly promoted cooperation between township enterprises in the eastern and western parts of the country, according to a nationwide fair held in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.

As revealed by the fair, Gansu has signed contracts of some 500 east-west cooperation projects with a total investment of 9.78 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion).

More than 70 percent of the projects deal with agricultural products, such as juice processing, milch cow raising, purple medic planting, and seed breeding.

Officials said that in the economic readjustment, more and@labor-intensive businesses are moving westwards, benefiting both the east and the west.

The country will accelerate the development of western China to invigorate the economy of the region, promote overall economic growth, and realize the long-term goals of modernization.
