Typhoon Toraji Lands in East China Province

Typhoon Toraji is moving northwestward in the coastal province of Fujian, east China, after it landed in Lianjiang County at early hours of Tuesday morning.

There has been no damage or casualties reported, and the local authorities were on alert and well prepared when the typhoon hit the province at 1:45 AM (Beijing Time) Tuesday.

The typhoon was moving at a speed of up to 108 km per hour, and the hurricane around the center of the typhoon measured 11 according to Beaufort wind scale.

China's central meteorological station issued an emergency warning Monday of the typhoon, which was formed on July 28 east off the Philippines, and slammed into Taiwan early Monday.

The storm is expected to bring rainstorms to most areas of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, southeastern Anhui Province, Shanghai and southern Jiangsu Province, according to the warning.
