Test-Tube Triplet Born in Central China Province

Test-tube triplet were born recently at a hospital in Chenzhou City, central China's Hunan Province.

The triplet infants, one boy and two girls, are premature by five weeks and need special care in the incubator for some time, said a source from the hospital.

The 27-year-old mother of the three was suffering from infertility, but successfully became pregnant with the help of test-tube baby technology.

The triplet, weighing 2,100 grams, 2,200 grams and 1,950 grams, are the first test-tube multiple birth in Chenzhou City.

Statistics show that more than 80 hospitals across China are engaged in test-tube technology, and 4,000 women have given birth with the help of the technology.

China's success rate in this field is 25 percent at hospitals of the provincial level, as against the international standard of 30 percent.

There have been reports on test-tube multiple birth in municipalities and provinces including Shanghai, Chongqing, Liaoning and Shanxi in recent years.
