China Unicom Integrates Paging Service

The China United Telecommunications Corp. (China Unicom), China Telecom's chief rival, has integrated its own paging service with the Guoxin Paging Corporation, which was integrated into China Unicom in 1999.

The integration makes China Unicom the biggest paging network with the most comprehensive coverage and largest number of users in China.

According to an official from China Unicom, the number of Unicom pager users has hit nearly 44 million, of which, 6.17 million joined this year.

In June 2000, the capacity of the Unicom paging system reached 126 million users.
