EU, China's Important Sci-tech Partner: Official

EU will become China's important partner for cooperation in the field of science and technology. China and EU are carrying on negotiations for scientific cooperation in various aspects like biotechnology, spatial technology, material technology, energy, environment and basic researches, said Wang Shaoqi, director of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Wang made the remarks at the first China-Norway international seminar on polar region opened Monday in Shanghai. As an important part of China-EU scientific cooperation, the seminar is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Oceanic Administration, the Polar Research Institute of China and the Research Council of Norway.

Trond Giske, Minister of Education, Research and Church Affairs of Norway, said that his country is willing to have further cooperation with China in the research of polar region and the cooperation in the co-observation by the two countries plays a specially significant role in the monitoring of geo-spatial environment.

The coordinated observation conducted by Norway's Svalbard and Chinese Zhongshan Station in Antarctica has substantial significance and will undoubtedly effect a worldly significance in the monitoring and research of geo-spatial environment, he added.
