Russia Test-Fires Highly Precise Short-Range Missiles in Siberia

Russia successfully test-fired highly accurate missiles Tochka (Point) in Siberia on Monday, a spokesman of the Siberian military district told Moscow media.

All the missiles hit targets accurately, the state Itar-Tass news agency quoted Valery Shcheblanin, head of the military district's press service, as saying.

According to the exercises' scenario, the missile forces were to support a motorized infantry regiment in defending a section of the state border.

The Tochka system is the first model of highly accurate weapons of ground troops. The missile with a flight range of 70 kilometers can carry a 480-kilogram warhead. Its launch weight is two tons.

The system has been developed by a group headed by Sergei Nepobedimy, the famous designer of missile systems, such as Tochka, Tochka-U and Oka, anti-tank missile complexes Malyutka (Baby), Shturm (Storm) and air defense missile complexes Strela (Arrow) and Igla (Needle), said Shcheblanin.
