China Unicom, the second largest mobile telecommunication operator in the country, announced here Monday that it will open wireless data services since August 1.

The new service item, named "Uni-Info", will provide Unicom mobile subscribers the possibility of surfing Internet for news and other information, and buying on-line with their cellular phones.

Unicom phone users, with their cellular phones backing message function, are able to link to Internet through the Unicom's data network 165 and other wireless Internet content providers, such as sina and sohu, which cooperated with Unicom.

The fees charged will include two parts, the connecting fees which will be charged by the Unicom and the information service fees, currently collected by Unicom on behalf of those content providers.
