China Volleyball Association Brought Forward Eight-year Development Plan
Sunday announced the opening of the Sixth Conference of China Volleyball Association in Beijing Capital Stadium aiming to pass the 2001-2008 Volleyball Development Plan.
According to the Plan, the general target for China's volleyball sport from 2001 to 2008 is to promote vigorously the mass participation in volleyball exercises with its emphasis laid on teenagers and schools; to form initially the training management and operational system adaptable to the principle of social development and feature of the sport and to set up a pattern of cooperation between professionals and amateurs. And still on the basis of improving the general level of volleyball exercises, it is to ensure the leading position of women's volleyball team in Asia and promote the men's volleyball team into the leading position of the second group of the world. In the 2004 Olympic Games the women's volleyball team should be among top four and men's volleyball team to get the qualification for the Olympics. And in the 2008 Olympic Games the women's volleyball team should be made capable enough to strive for the championship and the men's volleyball team to enter the top eight.
Professional population for beach volleyball movement must be further enlarged in order to bring up reserve talents, to perfect necessary policy for the setup of professional clubs and implement the transformation from sports teams to professional clubs so as to bring about a brisk development of beach volleyball industry and raise the ability for self-development. The target for women's volleyball team in the 2004 Olympic Games is to enter top eight, and for men's team to get the qualification for taking part in the match. And for the 2008 Olympic Games, the women's volleyball team is expected to compete for the gold, and men's team to enter top 16.
