Oil-painting Show to be Held

The Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation and the Shanghai Broadland Television Corporation have organized an oil-painting exhibition to be held from July 31 to August 5 at the China Art Gallery in Beijing.

The exhibition, titled Liu Linghua Chinese Quintessence Oil- painting, includes oil-paintings featuring famous characters from traditional Peking Opera.

At a press conference held Sunday afternoon, Liu, a former lecturer at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, said that he wants to show Chinese quintessence with the Western painting technique.

In recent years, Liu has created more than 30 oil-paintings manifesting stories of Peking Opera.

Art critics said that the vivid expression, bold outlines, splendid artistic style and the employment of realistic and abstract painting techniques possibly account for the artist's success.

The oil-painting exhibition is also scheduled for the China Art Fair between August 24 and 28 in Beijing, as well as the Shanghai Art Fair between November 16 and 20.
