China to Rectify Shipping Market

The Ministry of Communications will make great efforts to rectify the shipping market in the second half of this year, in a bid to ensure a good market order and the people's life and property security.

A taskforce of leading officials has been established to this effect, a ministry official said Friday.

Operators of liners for foreign tourists traveling along the Yangtze River will be investigated, registered and evaluated, with the results issued by the communications authorities.

Shipping companies overseas must have the approval of the communications authorities before they set up representative offices and carry out business activities in China.

The official said that the ministry will also rectify international container shipping stations set up in the country. The 320 international shipping agencies operating in China will have to have their business permit changed and their commission adjusted, according to the official.
