Smuggled Oil Seized in China

Customs officers seized 70 tons of smuggled refined oil on the sea near Quanzhou city, in east China' s Fujian province Thursday, July 26.

The refined oil was loaded on two ships from Taiwan, sources from Xiamen customs said.

Xiamen customs formed two teams to carry out a three-month crackdown on the smuggling of refined oil and cigarettes beginning from July 1.

Sources also revealed that since April this year, customs have intercepted 13 boats engaged in smuggling activities, including six from Taiwan.

A total of 217 tons of refined oil and 633 cases of cigarettes have been seized, involving 3.3 million yuan (about US$400,000).
