73 Bodies Discovered after Mine Explosion

The death toll in a coal mine explosion early Sunday in Xuzhou, east China's Jiangsu province, has risen to 73 by Thursday night.

The rescue work is continuing at press time, but experts say it unlikely that they will find any survivors still trapped in the mine. The explosion trapped 105 miners underground.

More than 100 rescuers have formed 20 teams to work at the scene around the clock, but they are having difficulty digging through the mine.

An investigation team consisting of members from several state departments has arrived on the scene. The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, they said.

Zhuang Jincai, the owner of the mine, has been arrested by local procuratorate.
