China Cites Youth of Ethnic Minority for Unity

A grand meeting was held Thursday in Lhasa to cite ten youth of Chinese ethnic minorities for their outstanding efforts in promoting national unity and advancement of ethnic affairs.

The winners, belonging to ten ethnic groups like Tibetan, Hui and Mongolian, have made remarkable achievements in their careers in religious affairs, public security, the military, education and local economic development in different regions across the country.

Along with the ten, another 169 people and 15 institutions were also praised at the gathering today for their hard work in uniting people of ethnic groups and facilitating the progress of ethnic affairs.

The awards were jointly presented by the Central Committee of Communist Youth League of China, the STate Ethnic Affairs Commission and the All-China Youth Federation.

Also at the meeting, over 11 million yuan (1.33 million U.S. dollars) in funding and books valued at 1.7 million yuan (nearly 205,000 U.S. dollars) were donated to Hope Schools and youth activity centers in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
