Three Gorges Permanent Lock Upper Berth Concrete Pouring Concluded

Picture shows the sub-piers for pontoons and piers of the upriver shipping berth of the Three Gorges Permanent Lock Project. The upriver shipping berth facilities are composed of 18 piers and 4 sub-piers. As the largest piers in the world, the 18 piers rise 47 meters high and 7 meters in diameter respectively.

Last Rehearsal of Ballet "Mei Lanfang" Held in Guangzhou

The last dress rehearsal of Ballet "Mei Lanfang" is being held in Guangzhou Ballet Ensemble. The first performance will be given here on July 28. New National Emblem to Be Hung Up on Great Hall of People

The one-ton metal national emblem, with steel structure, copperplate cover, golden surface, and red paint, is 6.3 meters in diameter. The new one, detached for the convenience of transportation, has been delivered to the Great Hall of the People and will be reassembled before installation.

Investment Trade Talks Opened in Xining

Water Control Project in Xinjiang

Several workers are busy by the reservoir with a capacity of 347 million cubic meters of water in Hetian County in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region July 26, 2001. It is part of the Uluwati Water Control Project with a total investment of 1.443 billion yuan. The project, scheduled to be complete by the end of this year since its construction in 1993 will ensure a supply of 1.057 billion cubic meters of water from Hetian River to Tarim River.
