China Willing to Give All Possible Assistance to ASEAN in Its Development

China is always ready to try its best to enhance its cooperation with ASEAN and provide all possible assistance to ASEAN in its development by taking its immediate realistic needs into account, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference Friday in Hanoi.

At the press conference jointly held by foreign ministers participating in the annual meeting between ASEAN and its dialogue partners, which concluded in Hanoi Friday, that China's cooperation with ASEAN is based on its consideration of the needs of ASEAN members, especially those of less developed countries within the regional group.

China observes the principle of bringing its own advantages into fully in its cooperation with ASEAN, particular in areas where China has much advantage, such as agriculture and human resources development.

He echoed the views of ASEAN Secretary-General Rodolfo C. Severino that the Sino-ASEAN cooperation should be based on the principle of mutual benefit so as to achieve a win-win result.

Severino said China's "participation in the world trade system dose not only represent a competitive challenge, but also an opportunity for ASEAN investors to take advantage of (China's WTO accession) and for ASEAN products to enter the Chinese market more freely."

China is the largest neighbor of ASEAN and both are developing countries, Wang said.

He stressed that China supports ASEAN in playing its role in regional affairs as a force of peace and development.

The ASEAN + Dialogue Partners meeting ended here Friday after all participants have reached extensive agreement on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including politics, security, preventive diplomacy, economic cooperation and the enhanced role of ASEAN.
