China Hi-Tech Fair 2001 to Spotlight Information Technology

Carrying the theme of "Information Technology and Informationization", China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) 2001 will be staged in Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong Province on October 12-17, said Li Decheng, vice mayor of Shenzhen.

``This year's high-tech fair will demonstrate China's achievements in high-tech fields such as information technology, biotech and new materials, and provide a stage for Internet start-ups to seek financial support for their expansion projects and market their products,'' Li told a press briefing in Beijing Thursday.

To date, 25 multinationals, including Canon, Samsung, NEC, Epson, Intel, US National Semiconductor, CISCO and Sanyo, and other high-tech enterprises and organizations from 16 countries have registered to attend the fair, said the the organizing commettee.

China Hi-Tech Forum, which features keynote speeches and seminars on New Venture Capital Market, Future Development of Information Technology and Biotech in the New Century, will also be held during the fair.

Held annually, the past two sessions of CHTF have made good records. The CHTF 1999 harvested a total of US$6.484 billion in trasaction value while the CHTF 2000 clinched 1,046 trade agreements, with the technology transfer volume hitting US$8.54 billion, up 31.4 per cent from the 1999 session.

"Despite the global economic slowdown, we still have much confidence in this year's fair. By far, our publicity and promotion activities have paid off. With more spacious exhibition halls and more business opportunities, we are sure the transfer volume will set a new record."
