Chief Secretary: HK Remains One of Safest Cities
Hong Kong remains one of the safest cities in the world, said Donald Tsang, chief secretary for administration of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, on Thursday.
The Chief Secretary said he was encouraged to hear that in the first half of this year crime reports had dropped eight percent to 36,034 cases while violent crime reports had dropped 12.1 percent to 6,683 compared with the same period last year, according to Hong Kong government's press release Thursday.
Tsang also praised Police professionalism and dedication for ensuring that Hong Kong remained one of the world's safest cities.
"This multi-agency approach involves the Police, social workers, schools and other interested parties and is helping prevent youth at risk from being led astray by unruly elements," Tsang told reporters during his visit to the busy Mong Kok Police Station in Hong Kong.
The Chief Secretary made the remarks after he was told that a comprehensive and pro-active strategy had been adopted to help troubled youngsters and to reduce juvenile crime rates.
"Recent vigorous enforcement action against organized crime syndicates and triad gangs has shown Police determination and commitment to maintain Hong Kong's reputation as one of the safest cities in the world," said Tsang.
