China Says Developed Countries Should Bear Greater Responsibilities in World EconomyChina Thursday urged developed countries to assume greater responsibilities for stimulating a growth of the world economy.Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan told an annual session between the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) and its 10 dialogue members (ASEAN 10+10) that developed countries are main beneficiaries of economic globalization and should thus bear main responsibilities for the growth of the world economy. Developed countries should render developing countries greater support and more assistance, Tang said. "They should cancel or reduce the debts of developing countries or reschedule their repayment." They should provide the developing countries with more market accesses and less trade barriers, as exports are particularly important to the restoration of the economic growth of developing countries, said the Chinese foreign minister. He called on developed countries to give less developed nations necessary economic assistance, particularly technical assistance and technology transfer. The ASEAN 10+10 meeting opened here Thursday for dialogues on cooperation in regional and global security issues, in combating transnational problems, poverty trafficking in drugs, women and children, and in narrowing development gap within ASEAN and among countries in the Asian region. |
