Border Trade with DPRK Rises in Northeast China CityDandong, a border city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, has seen a marked increase in the trade volume with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ( DPRK) this year. The city, located on the north bank of Yalu River, which forms the border between China and DPRK, registered an export volume of 91 million U.S. dollars in trade with DPRK in the first half of the year, an increase of 12.8 percent over the same period last year. Analysts with the Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Commission attribute the border trade growth to the favorable change in the situation of the Korean Peninsula in recent years, the economic recovery of DPRK, the increasing international aid to DPRK and some other elements. Commodities of high added value are now taking the place of agricultural products and by-products, and primary industrial products to become Dandong's new major export goods to DPRK, according to local sources. |
