Beijing Well Prepared for 21st Universiade

After a great endeavor of two years, Beijing is all geared up for the 21st Universiade as set for August.

So far, a total of 152 countries and regions have put down their names for the games with the number of participants to reach 6625. Plus some committee members of the International Olympic Committee invited, the scope and scale of this Universiade in Beijing is expected to overtake the previous entry records of athletes and officials, according to Sun Kanglin, secretary-general of the 2001 Beijing Universiade Organizing Committee.

According to Sun, the preparatory work on the whole has entered its final stage and some projects are now ready for use after tests and a trial operation.

All the 52 competition venues have been ready for the games. Covering a total space of 11.2 hectares, the Beijing Universiade Village will be closed up on August 10 and to be reopened on August 15.
