Chinese President Back in Beijing
President Jiang Zemin returned Beijing Thursday morning by special plane after a state visit to the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Republic of Malta.

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and other officials who accompanied Jiang during the visit returned aboard the same plane.

Greeting Jiang at the Great Hall of the People were Premier Zhu Rongji, Vice-President Hu Jintao, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Zhang Wannian, Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Zeng Qinghong, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Buhe, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Zhao Nanqi, Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Wang Gang, Minister in charge of Central Foreign Affairs Office Liu Huaqiu, and Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Guangya.

Diplomatic envoys from the five states also greeted Jiang at the Great Hall of the People.

During the visit, Jiang held talks with the presidents and met with other leaders of the five countries respectively, had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and major international issues of common concern, and reached wide- ranging consensus with them.

Jiang signed the Sino-Russian good-neighborly treaty of friendship and cooperation and a joint statement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and issued joint statements or press communiques with presidents of other relevant countries respectively.

Besides, China and the five countries signed a series of documents on bilateral cooperation in some fields.

Jiang's visit to the five European states has made important achievements and has been a success.
