Chinese Teenagers Xu Mian Shine in Platform Diving Worlds Final
Teenager diver Xu Mian won China's third gold medal in diving competitions by taking the women's platform diving title at the 9th FINA world swimming championships Wednesday in Fukuoka.

Xu scored a total of 532.65 points and her teammate Duan Qing was second with 522.54.

With the 1-2 finish by the duet, the Chinese team has won three gold, two silver and two bronze medals out of the diving pool.

Australia's Loudy Tourky took the bronze medal with 511.50 on Wednesday.

Both 14 years old, Xu is from east China's Jiangsu Province while Duan was born in Guangdong, south China. The two teenagers are competing in their first world championships.

Entering the final as the top qualifier, Duan had led the first three rounds in the final, with two identical day-high scores of 82.80 points. But she was overtaken by her teammate after the fourth dive. Xu was awarded the highest score of 78.30 points for the fifth and final dive, a reverse two and a half somersaults in pike position.
