Sudanese Ministers in S. Africa to Seek Support

A delegation of Sudanese cabinet ministers, led by Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail, arrived in South Africa on Wednesday for talks with South African government officials.

Discussions with South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will include the ongoing civil conflict in the Sudan, possible South African support -- official and unofficial -- for peacemaking efforts there, and human rights issues in the Sudan, South Africa's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Basetsana Thokoane said.

This is the first official visit to South Africa by a Sudanese ministerial delegation.

Economic cooperation and bilateral trade would also be discussed and a general agreement on political, economic and cultural relations would be signed, Thokoane said.

Academic cooperation agreements would be signed with the University of South Africa, the University of Pretoria and the University of the Witwatersrand.

On Friday the respective chambers of commerce of the two countries would sign a cooperation agreement, Thokoane said.
