Chinese Foreign Minister Meets US Secretary of State
Chinese Foreign Minister
Tang Jiaxuan
held a meeting with US Secretary of State Colin Powell Wednesday on the sideline of the Eighth ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
This is the first time that the two men met since US President George Bush took office in January this year. Their meeting here is primarily of courtesy nature, as Powell is going to visit
Beijing
later this week for detailed discussions on issues of mutual concern.
Earlier Wednesday, Tang said at an annual session of the ARF that China welcomes a positive, constructive role of the US in the Asia-Pacific region and is ready to work with the US side to maintain regional peace and security.
