Western Region Realized 8% GDP Growth

Western region's 12 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities have realized a 8 percent of GDP growth in the first half of this year, exceeding the 7.9 percent of the whole country's, according to Symposium on Western Development and Financing held on July 25 in Beijing.

The fast economic development in the region is attributed to the enormous investment by Chinese government. In the first half of this year, fixed asset investment in the region increased by 30 percent over the same period of last year. Under the active fiscal policy support, China speeds up infrastructure and key projects construction, some key projects in the fields of traffic, energy, urban construction, ecology, education are highlighted. Qinghai-Tibet railway, west-to-east power transmission, west-to-east gas transfer, trunk road construction, key city infrastructure construction and other projects are being put underway or will begin construction.

A person in charge of State Planning and Development Commission said that under great efforts, western region has achieved great progress in infrastructure construction, ecological environmental protection, scientific education and structure adjustment, China gets a good start in western development.
