Former Public Security Official on Trial

The People's Procuratorate of Nanning in south China's Guangxi Autonomous Region on Monday filed a lawsuit against Hu Yanzhong, former deputy director of the regional public security bureau, for accepting bribes.

Hu took his former office in September of 1993, was dismissed in June 2000, and was arrested in December 2000.

According to the report by the Procuratorate, on three separate occasions, he took 221,800 yuan (about 26,700 U.S.dollars) in bribes from individuals and groups who asked him for his assistance in business or personal matters.

The Procuratorate also claimed that Hu could not account for a huge amount of money in his possession.
