Three On Trial in Shenyang for Sheltering Gangleader

Testimony was given Tuesday in a local court of Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, by three people charged with harboring criminal gang leader Liu Yong.

The three accused are the wife, driver and a friend of Liu, who ordered his gang to assault and rob 42 people. One person was killed and another 16 were badly injured by the gang members, according to the local court.

The three defendants helped Liu escape from the manhunt carried out by the Shenyang police last year, by means of transporting Liu to various locations, and giving him money and shelter.

The court has convicted the three, who will be sentenced within the next few days.

The Shenyang Public Security Bureau has so far arrested 45 members of the gang, and their cases will be investigated by the local procuratorate.
