Female Bribe Taker Sentenced to Death in Central China
Jiang Yanping, who was convicted of taking huge amounts of bribes and grafting, was sentenced to death with deprivation of political rights for life Tuesday.
The ruling came from the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan Province, Central China.
Jiang, a former deputy general manager of the Provincial Architectural Engineering Group of Hunan, was accused of accepting over 10 million yuan (1.2 million U.S. dollars) in bribes.
Between 1995-99, Jiang took bribes for 15 times from individuals and groups who came to seek help in business or personal matters.
Between 1994-96, Jiang also grafted public money for herself over 734,000 yuan by making false receipts and payments, the court said.
In 1999, public prosecutors uncovered huge amounts of property from her residence, office and other locations, including 4.94 million yuan that she could not account for.
All the illicit money has been confiscated and handed over to the exchequer, the court said.
The court stressed that as the former leader of a state-owned enterprises, Jiang severely destroyed the normal working order of the enterprises, and undermined the reputation of the enterprises' leaders.
