China and South Korea Fight Back Challenge from West Asia

Wang Zhizhi led China to beat West Asian champions Lebanon, 87-76, while South Korea won another hard-fought quarter-final game against, 89-72 at the Asian championship on Monday.

Wang, the Dallas Mavericks' center, had 23 points, 11-16 in the field, and 10 rebounds under his name in 27 minutes.

But the victory was stained by a after-game riot, and neither coaches were available for comments as the press conference was cancelled consequentely.

China built up a double-figure lead after five minutes into the game and never let the Lebanese turn the table around.

Lebanon came in as close as five points at 78-73 2:15 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Fadi El Khatib led the team with 20 points.

Failing to convert any three pointers in the first half, the Koreans chipped in 32 out of 51 in the field when their shooters were 4-24 from behind the arc.

Center Seo Jang-Hoon was 12-18 in the field, scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, while forward Cho Sung-Won added 18 points. Qatar's Yasseen Ismail had a game-high 29 points and 11 boards.

Chinese Taipei squandered nine-point lead at the end of third quarter, losing to Japan 69-60, while Syria disposed off India 88- 62 when five of their players scored in double figures.

In Group III, China's Hong Kong boosted with the second win over teams from South East of Asia when they beat Singapore 92-71.

Yung Kam-Wah and Leung Kwok-Shing scored 15 points, while other three, Lui Chor-Wai, Ng Wah-Fung and Tam Wai-Yeung, contributed 11 each to gave Hong Kong the win.

United Arab Emirates crushed the winless Thailand 83-63 in a Group IV match. Ibrahim Rhalfan led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds.
