President Jiang Zemin Meets with Maltese PresidentJiang, who arrived in Valletta Monday morning on a three-day state visit to this island country, made the remarks during a meeting with Maltese President Guido De Marco.. Jiang said the Chinese Government and people always consider Malta a trustworthy friend, and will always support Malta to play an active role in international affairs. China and Malta established full diplomatic relations 29 years ago. Over the past years with full diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other equally, Jiang noted. De Marco recalled his recent visit to China, saying that he learned a lot in that trip. He stressed Jiang's current visit to Malta will greatly strengthen bilateral relations, saying that Malta pays great attention to Chinese culture and civilization, and a Chinese cultural center will be established in Malta. The Maltese president congratulated Jiang on his successful state visit to Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.
