Zeng noted that the visit by the Japanese delegation, an important part of a program for exchanging visits, will play a significant role in promoting the friendship between the two countries. Earlier this month, when meeting with secretaries-general of Japan's three ruling coalition parties, Chinese President Jiang Zemin reiterated that the friendly exchanges between Sino-Japanese young generations will promote mutual understanding and friendship. Zeng quoted Jiang as saying that both sides should promote traditional friendship and make greater efforts to deepen friendship of the two peoples. He noted that the Chinese government values the exchanges and cooperation between the youth of the two neighboring countries. Zeng expressed his belief that the exchange program will be further carried out. Through joint efforts, it will be implemented successfully, promoting exchanges of Sino-Japanese young officials and deepening mutual understandings, trust and cooperation. Yoshiyasu Sato said that the exchanges of younger generations of the two countries will help promote bilateral relationship, adding that the delegation would make efforts to boost such exchanges. The delegation, which consists of 32 members, is visiting China at the invitation of the Organization Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee. It is visiting China in return for a visit by a delegation of Chinese young leaders to Japan last December. The Japanese delegation, which arrived in Beijing on June 20, held seminars with young officials at the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Development Planning Commission, and State Economic and Trade Commission in the past two days. The delegation also visited the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, State Administrative College, and the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park, and toured the Great Wall and the Forbidden City and other places of interest.
