Artificial Rain Eases Drought in East China

Artificial rain has successfully eased the serious drought in the northern and central parts of east China's Jiangsu province.

Since April, the province has conducted 38 operations that have brought rainfall to 21 counties and cities, according to officials with the provincial meteorological bureau.

In the latest operation in July, the authorities fired over 200 rockets to interfere with the weather in Nanjing, Suqian, Xuzhou and Yangzhou cities, producing heavy rain and even rainstorms in these places.

The meteorological authorities said the operation will continue so as to help soak the severe drought, which has been harming the province since the early 1990s.
