Jiao Donghai, a doctor with the Shanghai Xiangshan Hospital has set a new Guinness world record for helping a patient lose by 53.5 kilograms in 11 months.

The doctor of traditional Chinese medicine has recently received the certificate from the Shanghai office of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Li Zhuxuan, 16, from Yan'an in northwest China's Shaanxi Province was carrying an oxygen cylinder and his health was very bad when he came to Dr. Jiao last July.

He weighed 131 kilograms then and was suffering from serious heart diseases and other illnesses due to his obesity, and all the different diets he tried failed.

After several months of medical treatment accompanied by an appropriate diet and exercise, Li Zhuxuan began to lose weight, and all his other health problems improved gradually.

When he was discharged in May, Li reduced his weight by 53.5 kilograms, his waistline shrank by 55 centimeters, and the various syndromes either disappeared or improved.
