Number of Wolves Diminishing in China: Experts

Chinese Experts have warned wolves are becoming extinct in China.

Jackals and roes are suffering the same fate. The three kinds of animals used to thrive in central China's Hunan province, but now seem to have disappeared due to environmental deterioration.

The conclusion came from a large scale survey in Hunan province by the State Forestry Administration, which lasted for five years, at a cost of 12 million yuan and involving 2,888 forestry experts and technicians.

Experts have not discovered any of these animals nor their trails in 3,308 sampling area, accounting for one percent of Hunan 's total area.

According to the experts, the last time a wolf and a roe were spotted was in 2000, and a jackal has not been seen since 1993.
