Another South City Reports Flooding

Following cities in Guangxi and Yunnan, another south city, Zhanjiang, of Guangdong Province, reported serious flooding caused by heavy rain.

According to local meteorological sources, rainstorms have been pouring over the coastal city in the last week triggered by typhoon Civet Durian and Utor. Some counties, like Suixi, Lianjiang, Leizhou and Potou reported serious flooding.

Half of the reservoirs have to discharge flood as the water has risen above the alarming level. Landslides of dykes took place at the downstream of major rivers.

Some 130,000 hectares of crops are inundated in the Suixi county. Plus the damage of houses, dykes and irrigation systems, the county reported a property loss of 63.2 million yuan (7.6 million U.S. dollars).

The relief work is available.
