Chinese Province Moves to Protect Traditional Arts,Crafts

Zhejiang Province in east China has decided to set aside special fund each year to protect its endangered traditional arts and crafts.

Officials said the province will set aside two million yuan every year from the government coffer for the preservation of 15 traditional arts and crafts, including stone, wood and bamboo carving, ceramics, calligraphy, cotton printing, and embroidery.

The money will be spent on the preservation and development of traditional arts and crafts and the training of outstanding young artists and craftsmen, they said.
