Antiques of Ancient Culture Found in East China
Chinese archaeologists have found a large cache of pottery and jade and other antiques in a group of ancient tombs in east China's Zhejiang Province. The archaeologists believe the antiques belong to a culture of about 4, 000 years ago.
Archaeologists from the Archaeological Research Institute of Zhejiang Province have so far uncovered more than 900 antiques, including basins, pots, cups, kettles and other relics from the 87 tombs in Wanli Village, Tongxiang City.
The archaeologists started their excavation work in March and combed an area of 2,000 square meters in three months of work.
Cao Jinyan, head of the institute, said they believe the antiques belong to the late period of the so-called Liangzhu Culture that thrived in east China between 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.
The tombs were found by local farmers working in a field in November last year.
