Bosnian Parliament Approves Nomination of New PMZlatko Lagumdzija, foreign minister of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, was confirmed Wednesday by parliament as the new prime minister of the Balkan country, Bosnia 's state news agency BH Press reported.Lagumdzija, who was nominated as premier by the Bosnian tripartite presidency last week, will retain the portfolio of foreign minister. In his inauguration speech to the parliament, Lagumdzija pledged to strengthen the building of governmental institutions, introduce European standards in the government work, and define the respective scopes of decision-making power of the nation and its two constitutive entities -- the Serb republic and the Muslim- Croat federation. The new prime minister also said his government will cooperate with The Hague (war crimes tribunal) in the return of property to its owners, the return of refugees and the fight against corruption and organized crime. Lagumdzija will replace Bozidar Matic, who resigned on June 22 over the parliament's failure to adopt an election bill that would have allowed the country to join the Council of Europe. |
